Job Title: Part time Sunday School Teacher

Location and Employment Arrangement:
The candidate will be expected to work between 3 and 6 hours a week. The candidate must be
available on most Sunday mornings by 10:00 a.m. at Westminster United Church, 543
Beechwood Drive in Waterloo. The candidate will receive lesson plans and teaching materials
during the week.
The contract will extend to the end of April 2026 but may be shortened or lengthened depending
upon circumstances before or at the original end date. One month's notice will be given if a
change of end date is needed.
Job Summary
The Sunday School teacher will organize and implement the curriculum for the church school, in
collaboration with the minister and church leadership. The Sunday School teacher will meet
with colleagues from other United Churches monthly and will receive lesson plans and material
through this network.
Job Responsibilities:

•  Provide Sunday School leadership on the majority of Sundays until the end of April 2026
•  Organize and implement the curriculum for the church school
•  Support the weekly functioning of the church school
•  Work with the minister, teachers and children in preparing for occasional intergenerational worship services or activities
•  Provide supervision when the children are present in the sanctuary during worship service
•  Meet monthly with colleagues from other United Churches to discuss lesson plans and share ideas
•  Work with the coordinator from another United Church to receive lesson plans and material
•  Ensure lesson plans and materials are prepared and ready for Sunday morning
•  Modify lesson plans to meet the needs of the children in attendance, given differences in ages

Skill Requirements
The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children. The candidate must be well organized, a
self-starter and a good communicator. The candidate must be able to communicate the Christian
values followed by Westminster United Church.
The candidate will be required to provide a Police record check, payable by the employer.
Compensation and Benefits
$20 per hour between 3 to 6 hours per week.

We’re located at the Cedars Worship Centre at 543 Beechwood Dr. in Waterloo.
We share our building – and even our sanctuary – with Temple Shalom, a Reform Jewish congregation.
We’re the first congregations of different faiths in Canada (and maybe the world!) who came together as strangers to plan, build and share a place of worship. We’ve been together since 1996, and it’s been great!

Sunday services:
Westminster’s worship services are Sundays at 10:30 a.m. for about an hour, after which you are welcome to join us for coffee, tea and casual conversation. We’re an affirming church, friendly, open-spirited and very informal.
We welcome children and have a special play space for them (and their parents, if they wish!) at the front of the sanctuary. Children join us for the first part of the service, and then usually head off to a time of supervised learning and fun called Creation and Connection Time.

Westminster is accessible:
We have a VERY ACCESSIBLE building. There are no stairs to enter the building or the sanctuary, or to access any of the washrooms or the Community Room or kitchen.

Our parking lot is adjacent to our worship centre, and there’s lots of parking space.
