The City of Waterloo is looking for volunteer drivers to assist older adults in our community with attendance at medical appointments, grocery shopping and social outings. This important service is crucial for older adults by allowing them to maintain their independence and stay in their homes longer. The shopping can be either "escorted shopping" where volunteers pick up the client at his/her home and assist with the shopping, or "list shopping" where the volunteer picks up the grocery list and money from the client and then does the shopping for him/her. Volunteers use their own car and are reimbursed for their mileage. The program is very flexible: the drivers can choose the frequency based on their availability, and are matched with clients accordingly. If you are able to help, please contact Christine Rushton at the City of Waterloo: e-mail christine.rushton@waterloo.ca, or call 519-888-6488 ext. 78204. Thank you for your assistance.
