WESTMINSTER DATES TO REMEMBER

 

Thur Feb 2       choir Practice We meet in the Sanctuary at 7pm,  “New members will be welcomed with open arms.”

 

Mon Feb 6       CINEMA IN THE CITY  On the first Monday of each month we will meet at either the Princess or the Princess Twin Theatre on King Street to enjoy an evening movie followed by discussion, coffee and dessert.  Each month we will announce the movie choice and its location so you can get it on your calendar! Everyone is welcome and please feel free to invite others to join to us!

 

Tue Feb 21      COUNCIL MEETING Council will meet in the Community Room at 7:30pm.

 

Sat Feb 25       ANOTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY.  Come out on Saturday morning at 7am to help provide a warm breakfast to those in our city who have no roof over their heads this winter.  The job includes helping clean up afterwards at First United Church at King and William Streets.  Volunteers can park in the lot behind Waterloo Square near First United.  Please arrive through the back door by the kitchen, just off the small First United staff parking lot.  Space is limited, so sign up today!  If you can’t help out that morning, don’t despair.  The Out of the Cold guests at First United desperately need warm socks, gloves, scarves, hats, coats, etc.  a tear off sheet provides a full list of items at the bottom of this page.  Please take one to remind you what is needed.  Please drop off donated items in the bin provided in the foyer.  Thanks in advance for everything.  Out of the Cold Wish List   Clothing:  (Adult size) gloves,  Mitts, Socks,  Long Johns, Underwear,    Hats.  toiletries: (travel size) shampoo,   Soap,  Deodorant,    Toothbrushes,  Toothpaste,    Combs,  Razors,      Shaving Cream,  Food:  Individual Puddings ,  Canned Soup,  Individual Fruit Cups, Canned Entrees,  prepared Cereal.   Other:  Adult Bus Tickets, Ear Plugs, Tim Horton Gift Cards.

 

Sun Feb 26      Congregational Meeting and Breakfast to be held at 8:30am, followed by regular services at 11am.  There will be activities for kids during the meeting, which starts about 9:15am.  To help us gauge numbers for breakfast, please use the signup sheet on the bulletin board in the hall.   All committee reports must be received in the church office by Tuesday February 14th so that the report can be created.

 

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

AUDITOR/REVIEWER NEEDED We are in need of someone to review the books for 2011.  This would involve checking that there are receipts for the expenses we have and reviewing donation records.  You do not need to be an accountant, but someone who is good with numbers and reviewing details.  Our annual meeting is February 26, so the work would have to be completed by then.  If you would be able to do this, or know of someone who could, please contact Paul Warder at 519-578-4312 or paulwarder@rogers.com.

 

Westminster had been invited to participate in the Week of Guided Prayer at Emmanuel United Church, Waterloo, March 4-10 (Sunday to Saturday). On Sunday Jan. 15th Jill Cameron and Arthur Hills conducted worship using some of the Week of Guided Prayer resources. They have left a display board, information and flyers in the sanctuary near the door. We hope this will provide information on what will happen at Emmanuel and spark your interest in trying it out.

 

Westwords is now available.  If we have your email address, you should already have received an electronic copy.  If we do not have an email address for you, or you have specifically requested it, a printed copy has been placed in your nametag box.  A limited number of printed copies are available on the table in the hall for visitors and others who would like one.

Annual REPORT. When we publish the Annual Report we also include a directory of everyone currently attending Westminster. If you would prefer that we do not publish your address and phone number in this directory, please advise the office at westmin@golden.net before February 14th. If the office does not have your current information please let Pamela know as soon as possible.

Thur Feb 2      PROJECT PLOUGHSHARES  At 7:00 p.m, Dr. Glen H. Stassen will speak on "Just Peace" at Siegfried Hall, St. Jerome's University, 290 Westmount Rd. N., Waterloo. Dr. Stassen is Lewis B. Smedes Professor of Christian Ethics at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. An award-winning teacher and author, he focuses on theological ethics, incarnational discipleship, peacemaking, social justice, and our need for healing in an "Age of Interaction." Dr. Stassen's talk is co-sponsored by the Centre for the Study of Religion and Peace at Conrad Grebel University College, Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, St. Jerome's University, and Project Ploughshares. Attendance is free and all are welcome.

 

Sat Feb 4         GRAND PHILHARMONIC CHOIR presents “A Night of Brahms and Pärt” at the Centre in the Square, 7:30pm.  See bulletin board for more information.

 

People for Prayers

As a church we are called to pray for each other and our mission in the world.

This week, in Hamilton Conference we pray for Lucknow United Church, (Bruce  Presbytery),

and in the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle we remember the countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
